Naivety is bliss. So is ignoring advice. Without a healthy combination of both we would never have embarked on this adventure. Starting up a company without a business model is one thing, writing a book while you’re at it is another. It’s been a long, bumpy ride. Deadlines were missed, and publishing date shifted from March 2018 to February 2020.

But we made it!

Endless support

Without tremendous support from people around us, the book would not have seen the light of day. Thanks to the first believers: our parents and families. Your trust that this idea would turn out well was far from realistic—but downright essential. And your support through life has made us who we are. Big thanks to Anne-Karlijn and Ananda, for your belief in us. It’s the best feeling in the world to have you two by our side.

Thanks to the crazy one bold enough to be the first to join the adventure: Freek-Jan Ronner, and those who joined shortly after: Catelijne Bexkens-Koopen, Ken Everett, Ellen Dick, Florine van Wulfften Palthe, and Bram van der Lecq. You’re all making the world of work a better place.

Thanks to editors John Mann and Hal Williams, the book’s lifesavers. When we read our “final” version of the manuscript in the summer of 2019 we had a sinking feeling. We knew we had a powerful story but couldn’t find the right words. You two have turned that manuscript into something we enjoy and appreciate. And we hope we won’t be the only ones.

Another huge vote of thanks to the pioneers on our Bucket List - the people who were willing to share their wisdom. We took a lot of your time to interview, research, and learn from you. We feel honoured. Some of you are not directly featured in this book, but rest assured your wisdom heavily influenced our thinking. We are forever grateful to stand on the shoulders of giants.

Finally, our gratitude to all those who joined us in the Rebel movement: the individuals and communities that supported us by reading, connecting, sharing, and contributing. Without you, we would be just another voice in the wilderness.

Boosting the revolution

The book aims to boost the global workplace revolution. To inspire people that work can and should be so much better than it is today. With 85% of employees disengaged, 23% feeling burned out and 37% that their job makes no useful contribution to society, work as we know it today is not working.

The good news? There is a better way. And it's not just theory. It's already happening in pioneering organizations around the world. The 100+ pioneers we visited give direct evidence that you can make work enjoyable and rewarding, even in the most challenging environments.

In this book, you'll learn how.

Topping the charts

Because of the huge number of pre-orders, the book has already topped best seller lists in various categories this week. We are humbled by this early success. Over the next few days, weeks, and years we hope to reach many, many more. The more people we reach, the more impact we will all have.
