1 Book, 1 Bucket List, 100+ Workplace Pioneers
In April 2017 we signed a contract for a book. Since then, we’ve traveled the world, seen more amazing workplaces *and* continued writing. Although the writing suffered a bit, publishing date is coming closer.
We're aiming for the second quarter of 2019. Here's an update from the writer's cave.
Thanks to the community
The Corporate Rebels community has been generous with suggestions on topics like the book title, subtitle, and cover design. We’ve literally had input from thousands of you. Mostly, these conversations are on our social media channels.
Title, subtitle, cover design
The result of those online and offline conversations is shown below:
Picking the title was easy: Corporate Rebels. It not only stands for the 100+ Corporate Rebels on our Bucket List, but also refers to us and the worldwide movement of fellow rebels. In a sense, it stands for all rebels around the world who are fighting for better workplaces.
The subtitle was a bit harder. We received lots of suggestions and spent way too long discussion this. And guess what.. In the end we decided to go for the one sentence that sums up everything that we stand for: making work more fun.
For the cover we decided to go for a simple, clean, and easily recognizable look. The slick cover was designed by VLERK&LIEM, the creative agency that helps us to make things look cool.
Some of our big sources of inspiration are willing to support us with an endorsement. We are proud to add their names to our movement to make work more fun.
They include pioneers like Daniel Pink, Jos de Blok, Ricardo Semler, Frederic Laloux, Yuri van Geest, Isaac Getz, Henry Stewart and Des Dearlove. Here are some of their quotes:
“I have long been a fan of the Corporate Rebels. And this books captures the essence of their wisdom. The authors provide a no-nonsense, practical, and thought-provoking perspective on the world of work.”
Daniel Pink, author of WHEN, DRIVE, and A WHOLE NEW MIND
"The Corporate Rebels are a rare breed: thoughtful, profound thinkers and investigators of the upcoming workplace. They have pooled their talent and time, but especially courage, to let the old go by, and tour the world in a quest for forward-thinking contributions to how humankind does things in a collective mode - and the result has been a spectacular addition to our toolkit of modernization."
Ricardo Semler, CEO of Semco Partners, and author of MAVERICK, and The Seven-Day Weekend
"Challenge chosen truth is one of my recurring mottos and that is exactly what Corporate Rebels are doing! A clever read for all employees, HR professionals and business leaders that want to create radically inspiring workplaces."
Katarina Berg, Chief HR Officer of Spotify
“Corporations need disrupting, and the business world needs the Corporate Rebels. They are a timely and very welcome wake up call for capitalism. A breath of fresh air in management thinking, the Rebels are on the Thinkers50 Radar for a very good reason. Their voices resonate for a new generation who are demanding a radically different approach to work and life.”
Des Dearlove, co-founder of Thinkers50
"Organizations, or rather their customers and employees, are asking for more sustainable and better ways of organizing work. The Corporate Rebels have been able to hit the nail on the head; they share alternatives in an inspiring way. Beautiful!"
Jos de Blok, founder and CEO of Buurtzorg
"A silent revolution in management is underway. For people to notice, and join the revolution, we need to give it a voice, or rather many, many voices. The Corporate Rebels have made it their job to bring us such voices and their stories. I’m looking forward to their book."
Frederic Laloux, author of Reinventing Organizations
“The Corporate Rebels give a valuable, refreshing, and unique contribution to thinking and doing on new organizational models. With solid choices and research, with a transparent approach, with practical insights, with nuance and with a lot of courage. Bravo!”
Yuri van Geest, co-author of Exponential Organizations
“Joost Minnaar and Pim de Morree have covered the planet to meet all the organizations, leaders, and thinkers who aim to transform the command-and-control workplace into a place where work is fun. The authors found over one hundred of them and through their no-nonsense stories provide hope and vision to any student of organization. A most interesting and original book.”
Isaac Getz, co-author of Freedom, Inc. and of Leadership without Ego
“The Corporate Rebels are the place to go for the most exciting and innovative developments in management across the planet. They stimulate, they challenge, they find the cutting-edge companies and paint a picture of how organizations could be different, and much more fun to work for. Whether you are a business leader or an employee, they will change the way you think about work.”
Henry Stewart, Chief Happiness Officer, Happy Ltd
